Hilltop Gospel Choir to sing "A New Beginning"

The Hilltop Gospel Choir, under the direction of Roberta Shimensky, presents its new season concerts "A New Beginning" with guest artists New Pilgrim Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir, Tim Drisdom, director; and "Speechless Praise" Mime Ministry of Second Baptist Church in Ogden.

Concerts are Saturday, May 7, 7:30 p.m., at Mountain View Christian Assembly, 8000 South 300 East in Sandy; Friday, May 13, 7:30 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 203 South 200 East in downtown Salt Lake City; and Sunday, May 15, 7:30 p.m., at Hilltop United Methodist Church, 985 East 10600 South in Sandy.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door or ordered in advance by calling 801.571.5777 X3. Childcare will be provided at the Hilltop location only.

The Hilltop Gospel Choir is an outreach ministry of Hilltop United Methodist Church that embraces all from our community, connecting many diverse faiths and cultures in sharing a love for singing the good news of the gospel. The choir's repertoire includes works by leading gospel composers Richard Smallwood, Joe Pace, Hezekiah Walker, Kevin Bond, Leon C. Roberts and others.

Hilltop Gospel Choir is invited frequently to perform at area church festivals and has appeared at Calvary Baptist Church, the United Methodist Rocky Mountain Region Annual Conference in Grand Junction, Colo.; New Pilgrim Baptist Church, opening for the Blind

Boys of Alabama at the inaugural Snowbird Tent Revival Festival, Embry Chapel A.M.E.

Church, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Concert at Kingsbury Hall, Calvary Chapel, First Presbyterian Church, Park City Community Church, First United Methodist Church and others.

Guest artists have included the Cadet Sisters; and Althea Douglas, Vince Clark,and Mia Brinson as soloists.

Hilltop Gospel Choir is accompanied by an eight piece band composed of some of the finest musicians of Salt Lake City: Anthony Phan, piano; Ben Johnson, bass; Jamie Dalton and Dan Chamberland, drums; Kris Tanton and Mat Wennergren, guitar; Zach Wiggins, keyboard; and David Halliday, sax.
