Cottonwood Cyclery

The Tour de France, cycling charity rides and the exciting BMX races all have contributed to the popularity of cycling. Whether you are in it for the sport or for the fun, Cottonwood Cyclery can outfit you. They stock a variety of affordable road and family bikes for leisure and recreation along with an assortment of BMX and mountain bikes to cover some hard core terrain.

"Our philosophy is to service people the way we would service our family, whether its their first time coming in as a new cyclist or if they need a race bike," says owner Alan Greenberg. "Everyone here is trained to put people on the right product."

Alan will also find his customers the right product for the right price. He carries a tremendous variety of bikes and at a reduced price. One way he can make the bikes affordable is stocking his store with both close-outs and year-end models.

"Having a huge selection of these bikes, instead of the newer bikes on the floor, allows me to pass the savings onto my customers," he says. "You can get a 2008 model with the same parts as the 2010 for 20 percent less."

Great prices always bring customers back, but Alan says it's the personal touch in the store's customer service that brings them back again and again. This customer service approach stemmed from Alan's childhood. He is from back east and remembers his experience purchasing his very first bike back in 1988.

"I remember how I was treated. I had a lot of stupid questions and they helped me through it and didn't write me off because I wasn't spending $3,000," Alan says.

Alan's love of biking has never ceased. He is a big outdoors enthusiast and has frequented many bike shops throughout Utah. They all supplied bikes but the experience was intimidating and lacked the service he found back home.

"There are bike shops where the attitude and vibe is so elitist," Alan says. "A lot of people who get into the cycling industry don't realize that the everyday consumer doesn't want to pay $8,000 for a bike."

For this reason, Alan opened Cottonwood Cyclery in 2008, right in his own neighborhood at 2594 Bengal Blvd.

"We filled that niche that nobody in the industry was filling, having a personable service approach and being down to earth," he says.

Cottonwood Cyclery may be new but they sure are making an impact on the cycling world. Mountainbikereview.com recently voted Cottonwood Cylery the best bike shop in Utah. The store's success has allowed it to double in size and expand its repair shop. The service shop offers full repair services from fixing flat tires and tune-ups to a giving a bike a complete overhaul on the suspension forks.
