‘Handcuffed’ cities: Tthe new transportation tax

Senate Bill 136 was passed this March, allowing counties to impose a quarter-cent sales tax for transportation funding. Salt Lake County passed an ordinance stating that if a collective of cities and townships making up 67 percent% of the county’s population show support for the tax, it will be imposed this summer.
